Advancing University Research Administration (AURA): Advancing University Research Administration is a suite of projects to implement research administration process and system improvements. It is the next phase of the Research Administration Project (RAP) which began in 2009. The objective is to streamline the research administration processes to improve effectiveness, efficiencies and customer service, enabling the University research faculty to increase research endeavors. This program will also assess and improve the supporting systems of the research administration processes.
Business Office: The Research & Economic Development Business Office staff manage administrative and financial operations of Research and Economic Development. Services provided range from supporting the offices, organizations, and programs within Research & Economic Development to assisting UNC Charlotte faculty members, researchers, and students with questions and needs.
The Charlotte Research Institute (CRI): The Charlotte Research Institute is the portal for business-university partnerships at UNC Charlotte. Regionally, CRI works with the community and the campus to accelerate technology commercialization, and champions the growth of entrepreneurial ventures. Globally, CRI develops intellectual capital through collaborations with industry, government and academia.
Conflict of Interest (COI): The Conflict of Interest Manager works with faculty and staff to identify potential conflicts of interest and conflicts of commitment; and to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and university-wide regulations and policies. The COI Manager also manages the Activities, Interests & Relationships (AIR) disclosure and COI Training systems, and provides guidance via the COI website.
Lab Animal Resources: UNC Charlotte’s laboratory animal veterinarians and technical staff provide primary and veterinary care to all animals housed, as well as investigator training, technical assistance and guidance, and access to health status, laboratory, and imaging services. Our goal is the maintenance of an enriched, variable-free, secure, and humane environment for our animal subjects, as well as superb customer service for our research clients.
Office of Grants and Contracts Administration (GCA): The Office of Grants and Contracts Administration provides transactional support to college-based post-award staff and is responsible for overall sponsored program financial reporting and compliance. Award Management staff assist with tasks including award set-up and Banner budget entry, cost share, release time, and award close-out. Cost Analysis deals with recharge units, effort reporting and fringe benefit and F&A proposals. GCA also handles contract negotiation and issues sub-awards to other participating institutions.
Office of Proposal Development (OPD): The Office of Proposal Development (OPD) provides consultation services to faculty who are developing grant proposals.
Office of Research Compliance (ORC): The mission of the Office of Research Compliance is to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as University policies by partnering with the University of North Carolina at Charlotte research community in support of ethical research practices. The ORC promotes ethical research practices by providing education, training and resources to faculty, staff, researchers and students. The ORC oversees several research and research-related areas including human subjects research (IRB), the care and use of laboratory animals (IACUC), the use of biological agents (IBC), export controls, and conflicts of interest.
Office of Research Services and Outreach (ORSO): The Office of Research Services and Outreach is the central administrative office for managing proposal submissions and outreach.
Office of Technology Transfer (OTT): The Office of Technology Transfer identifies, protects, and commercializes university research and intellectual property. OTT works closely with faculty, students, and staff to help bring new technology and innovation to market and assists with the invention and patent process, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, and material transfer agreements.
Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC): The Small Business and Technology Development Center is a leading resource for growing and developing businesses. Located in the Ben Craig Center, the SBTDC provides services in areas such as planning, financial management, human resources, marketing, and operations; and training and education for business startups.
Ventureprise: Ventureprise serves as the University’s entrepreneurial resource and is fully integrated with the business engagement mission of the Charlotte Research Institute. It is a resource for faculty, researchers, and students seeking to commercialize innovations through new venture formation. Ventureprise is the portal into the university for early-stage entrepreneurs seeking to leverage university resources.
